Researchers at the Defense Health Agency (DHA) have developed a mobile app, the Provider Resilience app, to assist behavioral health providers and other health professionals in guarding against compassion fatigue and burnout. The app helps users assess their resilience and includes inspirational and funny messages and videos of patients expressing their appreciation for the care that they have received. DHA has discovered that non-military providers have also appreciated the app, with it being downloaded 35,000 in the past five years.
The US Department of Veterans Affairs has developed numerous mental health mobile apps to assist Veterans, service members, and their families. Apps include guided exercises to practice mindfulness, coping strategies for dealing with PTSD symptoms, stress management tools, losing and maintaining weight, and ways for parents to reconnect with their children.
