Every year the US Department of Defense (DoD) recognizes March as Brain Injury Awareness Month.  This year’s theme is Advancing Warfighter Brain Health. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been called the signature wound of the current conflicts and has affected nearly 400,000 service members since 2000.  The DoD endeavors to educate service members and their families so that they can recognize TBI symptoms and receive the care that they need. The DoD promotes the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation (MACE-2) screening tool so that military members can be referred immediately.
