Due to a discussion between Director Mark Bilosz and Lucas Vrbsky, the Salisbury VA Medical Center Incarcerated Veterans Re-entry Specialist, at a meeting of the North Carolina Governor’s Working Group, the Justice-Involved Veterans (JIV) Program was launched to improve services for incarcerated Veterans preparing for transition back into the community. The JIV initiative is one of several nontraditional outreach efforts that make up the Winston-Salem RO modernization initiative for strategic outreach and community engagement.

Marsha Davis, the Justice Involved Coordinator, has been instrumental in implementing the Director’s initiative. She has provided education, sent informational letters to Veterans prior to their release, and increased access to claims assistance. As a contact for Veterans that are justice-involved, she can be reached at 336/251-0377 for claims information and assistance.  Incarcerated Veterans.  There is also a hotline for justice-involved and incarcerated Veterans:  336/251-0555. Veterans facing or experiencing homelessness may call 336/251-0383.  This line will ring several times before requesting a callback number.
