The Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS) has authorization to provide the COVID-19 vaccines to the most vulnerable Veterans, including Veteran frontline essential workers in our communities. The COVID-19 vaccine is a 2-dose vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine doses will be given 21 days apart. The Moderna vaccine doses will be given 28 days apart. The COVID-19 vaccine cannot be given within 14 days of any other vaccine.

While the vaccines are in limited supply, the DVAHCS has started to schedule the following groups of Veterans for COVID-19 vaccination:

Veterans   

  • Age 75 and older
  • Dialysis
  • Chemotherapy
  • Solid organ transplant
  • Homeless

Veteran frontline essential workers               

  • First responders (firefighters, police)
  • Education (teachers, support staff, daycare)
  • Agriculture and food processing
  • Manufacturing
  • Corrections workers
  • S. Postal service workers
  • Public transit workers
  • Grocery store workers
