In February 2018, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the US Department of Veterans Affairs partnered to announce the first seven cities to participate in the Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (https://www.samhsa.gov/newsroom/press-announcements/201802200200).  While North Carolina was not represented in this first cohort, Charlotte/Mecklenburg County has been selected to participate in the second cohort.  Janene McGee, Division Director, Mecklenburg County Veterans Services, will serve as team lead of an interagency initiative to identify and implement best practices to prevent suicide. In addition, the Charlotte/ Mecklenburg County community has been selected to participate in an intensive two-day training in which the Sequential Intercept Mapping model will be used to identify existing crisis services and potential gaps in the community.
