January is Cervical Health Awareness Month and VA health care provides women Veterans with the option to receive gynecologic care, including cervical cancer screenings. Cervical cancer was once the number one cause of cancer-related death in women. But, according to the American Cancer Society, the number of cervical cancer deaths in the U.S. has dropped by more than 50% since the 1970’s due to increased screening. It’s also one of the most treatable cancers if found early. That’s why VA encourages you to talk to your primary care provider about testing.

To contact the Women Veteran Call Center, call 1-855-VA-WOMEN (1-855-829-6636). Staff there can connect you with a program manager at a local VA facility for more information. Additionally, you can chat online via real-time messaging or visit www.womenshealth.va.gov.
