The National Center for PTSD is trying to help Veterans make informed decisions regarding PTSD treatment plans. Research has shown the most effective treatments for PTSD are evidence-based trauma therapies.
The three main evidence-based trauma therapies are:
- Prolonged Exposure (PE) – Teaching people how to confront memories, feelings, and situations they have avoided post-trauma.
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) – Helping people recognize how trauma has changed their view about themselves, others, and the world.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – Helping people process their trauma, allowing them to start to heal.
The PTSD Treatment Decision Aid helps compare various treatment options and creates a personalized summary of choices that can be shared with a health care provider.
