The North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) has teamed up with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) to create 14 recommendations for health care providers, state agencies, advocacy organizations and others to assure more accessible communication for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in all health care and long-term settings. More than one million North Carolinians suffer from hearing loss and more than 80,000 of them are Veterans and service members.
