“I was discharged and I just remember having a bag full of opioids. I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have the courage to kill myself but I didn’t want to live. And by drinking 30 beers a day and using heroin, that was my way of killing myself. It’s a sense of hopelessness that I see every day with the veteran’s I work with. It does get better. Change is possible. There is hope.”
