Earlier this month, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction announced that the US Department of Defense’s Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) has awarded a five-year grant of more than $800,000 to the Troops to Teachers program.  Launched in 1994, this program has assisted service members in becoming teachers in the public schools and has placed nearly 1,200 teachers In classrooms across the State.

The program offers counseling on pathways to teaching, referrals to teacher education programs, job-search assistance, and aid in writing résumés and cover letters for employment as teachers.
