On April 5, NC STRIVE Central East hosted their regional conference at Fayetteville Tech. Planned by a committee consisting of representatives from Fayetteville Tech, Methodist University, Wake Tech, Veterans Upward Bound, the Governor’s Institute, and the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the agenda included keynote speaker Michelle Louisville, Coordinator of the Substance Abuse Treatment Program, at the Fayetteville VA Health System; a panel of student Veterans; and breakout groups on increasing awareness of suicide, military culture, Green Zone training, and GI Bill educational benefits. Vendors also promoted services and resources that they offer.
A total of 104 individuals attended the conference. They found the content to be relevant and beneficial and plan to use the information to enhance programming at their own institutions. Attendees found the student panel to be particularly powerful in illustrating individual stories and challenges. Sponsors for the event included Give An Hour and Veterans Upward Bound.
