On February 27 and 28, Janene McGee, Mecklenburg County Community Support Services Veterans Services Division Director, and Dr. Nicole French, Clinical Director at Veterans Bridge Home and Army Reserve Psychologist, co-leads for the Mayor’s Challenge, hosted the Mecklenburg County Service Member Veteran Family Suicide Prevention Workgroup’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Mayor’s Challenge pre-site visit in Charlotte. This meeting served as preparation for the Workgroup’s visit to the Service Member Veteran Family Suicide Prevention Policy/Implementation Academy in Washington DC scheduled for March 27 and 28.

The Mayor’s Challenge Implementation Academy will bring together small interagency teams from seven cities or counties. Teams will work intensively to determine optimal ways to implement best practices and define success indicators. This unified effort will serve as instruments of change and provide a replicable best-practice public health model that demonstrates meaningful results in suicide prevention at both the state and local levels.
